When it comes to a desktop computer there are a lot of things that you need to have. But then again there are also plenty of things are just not needed. Let's take a look at some of the main components of a desktop to help you make a good decision on your next computer.

There are a couple of main components that you'll find in any desktop. These are memory the motherboard the processor hard drive monitor graphic card operating system removable storage. There are other components that you'll need to have as well that include the sound card communication systems peripherals mouse keyboard etc. others. While these components are necessary they don't define the specs of the computer. All of these components can be customized based on the consumer's needs.

When it comes to processors there are a lot on the market right now. Just about any of them will work just fine if you're only going to be using your computer to run office applications browse the internet. But if you're going to be doing a lot of 3D rendering gaming or other things along those lines you'll need a more powerful processor. These users will probably need to get a quad core processor versus a dual core processor.

Another very important aspect of a desktop computer is memory. One type of memory is called RAM. The more RAM you have the more smoothly your applications will run. But just like processors if you are not producing multimedia or gaming you won't need to have a ton of extra RAM. 2GB is good starting point for Windows Vista Windows XP.

It wasn't too long ago that the only people concerned with graphic sound cards were gamers. But these days with more more applications relying on multimedia graphic sounds cards are very important. Gamers will still want to make sure they have top of the line cards but the standard user can probably get by with basic cards.

As you can see there is lot that goes into making a computer work efficiently. & we've only touched on a few of the more important ones That's why one of the great things about owning a desktop computer is that you can customize them upgrade them as needed. If you decide you need more RAM you can go buy more install it. If you need a faster CD ROM drive you can pull out the old one put in a better DVD drive. Whatever is considered standard today will need to be upgraded shortly as technology advances with a desktop computer you have this flexibility.
